My Surreal Life in Hong Kong

Tommy Fung was born in Hong Kong in 1979. At the age of nine he moved with his family to Maracaibo, Venezuela. There he studied Graphic Design at La Universidad del Zulia, where he obtained his degree in 2005. Soon after his graduation, he started his own business as a freelance graphic designer. After a while he finds his passion in photography, since then he applies the theory of design in photography.
In 2014, he was one of the finalists at the WYNG Masters Award on the theme of “AIR”.
In 2016, he moved back to Hong Kong due to the social and economic crisis in Venezuela.
In 2017, he began the photographic project called "My Surreal Life in Hong Kong" to recreate surreal and funny situations about Hong Kong using Photoshop, sharing them in social networks like Instagram and Facebook, as @surrealhk. He participated in “Harmonious Chaos” of deTour 2017 at PMQ, exhibiting his earliest artworks named “Real or Surreal”.
In 2018, he had a TEDx talk at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Also in 2018, he won the Hotel Jen Photography Prize at the Affordable Art Fair. He had exhibitions at the Jen Hotel in Hong Kong, Beijing and Singapore.
In 2019, he did a collaboration with Max & Co and his work was displayed at their stores in Hong Kong. He also had an exhibition at Shun Tak Centre as the main attraction of the theme “Summer Dreaming”.
In 2020, he did his first solo exhibition SURREALHK My Surreal Life in Hong Kong at 13A New Street Art Gallery, with an overwhelming response from his fans attending to the venue.
Tommy has been a guest in educational conferences in Hong Kong and has given many interviews for the local press and online media in other countries as well.
He had done many commissions for renowned companies, while he continues to share his work with his followers.
